I was just learning a lot of new (to me) altered book techniques,
such as envelopes, flaps and sleeves.
Cut-out pages reveal a line of monkeys -
a favourite subject in Kahlo's self portraits.
I also used Loterria cards and overprinting on velum sheets.
I was very pleased with the results and decided to go on and create many, many more altered books, which I'll be sharing here on the blog in the coming weeks.
Nice. Enjoying looking at your Frida book. Lately I have been looking back through some of my old altered books from that same time period. Thinking that since I haven't been creating much of anything lately, I should maybe give it a go again. Most of my Altered Books were sent off in swaps. Maybe I'll do one just for myself. Looking forward to seeing more of yours.
ReplyDeleteBarbara - It is fun to look back and revisit these, I haven't done any for awhile and am thinking, like you, that it might be fun to do another sometime soon.

While I can't really claim to have worked on altered books, I continue to gather ideas, just realizing that my obsession with flower-patterned scrapbook papers has to do with something close, especially the flaps and pockets - pockets on anything are simply essential - and maybe an altered book, if the pages are heavy enough. Then there's that irresistible washi tape. What a wealth of Frida and related images you have. This looks great. xo
ReplyDeleteMarylinn - Flaps and pockets! And then getting to fill them. This was such a satisfying project and I loved working on it.
