Quick, Easy and Fun!

How fun is this?  Distress Stains and Ideaology
rub-ons and rubber stamps.

 On 5x7" canvas panels.

Using techniques from Tim Holtz.

I love the stark contrast between the coloured stains
and the black of the rub-ons and stamping.

These are quick and fun to do.

Ready for Art Girlz in Autumn, Sunday September 28, 10-5,
at Altered by the Sea Studio, here in Morro Bay.

La cage de la tĂȘte

My daughter Jenny manages a Michael's store ( I know!)
in Santa Maria and got me a great buy
 on these shabby chic birdcages.

Now normal people would fill them with flowers
or bird statues or things like that,

But me, I scoff at normal and follow
 my own off-the-wall instincts.

I realize these won't be everyone's cup of tea,

But I'll bet there are a few interestingly
quirky people out there who will like them.

And for those people, the cages will be for sale
at our annual Art Girlz in Autumn Home Show
here at Altered by the Sea Studio in Morro Bay
on Sunday September 28 10-5.

Time for a Little Rust

It's been awhile since I've featured some lovely rust on the blog, so...

There - didn't that feel good?

Something to Crow About

Different steps on the way to the completed paintings

One of the most anticipated events in Cambria every year is the Scarecrow Festival when over 300 hand built scarecrows are found all over town.  Created by individuals, clubs, groups, service organizations and others they run the gamut from traditional to "Way-out-there!"

Time for Crows  10x20"

Cambria Center for the Arts, during September and October,
to coincide with the Festival, will be featuring
an exhibit of Crows, Scared or Not.

Crows Up a Tree  10x20"

Using gesso, old dress patterns,
cheesecloth, Golden Fluid Acrylics,
black card stock cutouts, stencils and masks, leaf brads,
charms and rubber stamps I created my entries.
Definitely crows - whether scared or not I leave to you.

It Was Only 50 Years Ago

When Hard Day's Night was first released 50 years ago,
I was 12 and very caught up in Beatle mania.

They had first landed in the US in February of that year on
my birthday and of course I took that as a sign -
of what I'm not sure, but a sign nevertheless!

Margot and I went to see it at our local indy theater
(the first time I'd watched it since the summer of '64).
It was fab!

Here's the page from my journal recording the event.

More Journal Pages

Old invoice and more snaps.

I did this page while in the hospital for a few days -
as it says "Not the best week so far."

A swatch of painted leather and journaling on a
 piece of old manila envelope.

These two are "centering thoughts"
from a health meditation I do daily.

It actually was quite meditative using rubber
stamps to add them to my journal!

New Daily Journal

This is my latest daily journal. It's one I made using the
techniques from Mary Ann Moss's Full Tilt Boogie workshop.

Pen and watercolour wash of my favourite coffee shop.

Love using old snaps!

A collage for my last day of chemo at USC
(getting it locally in San Luis Obispo now).

Trying out new markers!
