Vintage Score

My goodies from last Sunday's hunting and gathering
Wonderful button sample cards, distressed metal crosses,

A very tiny coin purse and
an even tinier walrus pin.

Copper (not rubber) stamp of
a myriad of headgear.

And... delicious detritus found in the field
on the way back to the car!

Remnants of the Past

Had a glorious time this past Sunday

A fantastic gathering that happens twice a year, spring and fall,
and is held at the Madonna Inn Event Building.

The weather was glorious and the vendors were out in force
with thousands of delightful choices.

We spent most of our time at the outside booths,
where things can often be a better bargain.

Got some Christmas shopping done,

and found some lovely little treasures to add to my stash.

Fun to fall into conversation with people about their wares,
finding out the back stories and fascinating histories.

Gathered lots of good ideas - for art making
and for ways to display well-loved pieces.

Bling, rust, worn stone and softest silk,

a riot of textures and colours.
Eye candy to the max!

Always a highlight of the season and never disappoints!

Come back on Thursday and I'll show you
what I brought home to the studio!

Antique Street Faire

It's October so that means the
Antique Street Faire in Cayucos.

I always go, I always enjoy myself, and I always score!

 This time was no exception.

Two tiny metal cars from the '30's
and a handful of old snaps.

A bundle of old letters with Provencal postmarks.

Vintage Valentines, signed on the back,

and a very small, very old cigar box to
add to my ever growing collection.

A Small Score - But Very Choice

Had a chance on my recent time off to visit a
huge antique mall up the coast in Cayucos.
Three floors, lots of eye candy and inspiration.

I picked up only three things, and very nice they are too.
A wonderful vintage (when Cuban cigars were still sold here)
cigar box with great graphics and labels ,

a rusty well used lunch box
that features a handle on the top,

and this fascinating sample of different fonts
embroidered on hemp cloth.
I see this as the cover for a journal devoted to typography.
Don't you love a successful hunting and gathering session?!

Vintage, Oh My!

What a time we had at Remnants of the Past on Sunday.
Beautiful weather, amazing vendors and fun, fun, fun!

My definite favourite merchandise label -
 "Arms & Legs - 2 for $5.00".

A score of several delicious little things -

Steampunk heaven - look at these totally to-die-for gears!

Well worn and well loved scraps of old patchwork quilts.

Tags and ribbon from the talented Anna Corba.

A vintage locker number and a gentle reminder.

Delightfully rusted letters

Time to sit and rest up -
Remnants of the Past returns in October!

Remnants of the Past

Our weekend adventure this bright June morning is a trip to the semi-annual Remnants of the Past Vintage Antique Show in San Luis Obispo at the Madonna Inn Expo Center.

Dozens and dozens of vendors with more vintage-y goodness that you could ever imagine, set up for the weekend to amaze and delight the thousands of visitors who flock to this event every spring and fall.

This year's highlights include Anna Corba and Jo Packham.

For a wonderful article (and delicious eye candy) about the show, check out the current issue of Where Women Create

I'll post my score later this week - that's if I can stop drooling long enough to actually buy something!
