Antique Street Faire

It's October so that means the
Antique Street Faire in Cayucos.

I always go, I always enjoy myself, and I always score!

 This time was no exception.

Two tiny metal cars from the '30's
and a handful of old snaps.

A bundle of old letters with Provencal postmarks.

Vintage Valentines, signed on the back,

and a very small, very old cigar box to
add to my ever growing collection.

Suitcase Saturday Score - Paris

Several months back I talked about how we went
wild buying scarves in Paris on our honeymoon.

But Paris is also a wonderful place to find jewelry!

Both of these pieces were in a little
shop on the Rue de Rivoli,
the proprietor was an ex-pat English lady
who'd lived there for 30 years.

These beauties were found at Paris's
original department store -Le Bon Marche.
I bought a pair in red for a friend back home.

A small shop down the center road of the Ile Saint Louis
provided not only this charming pair
(and some in pink for another friend),

but also these stunning earrings
 and the necklace below
 at a Venetian glass shop
just across the street.

All the colours of the rainbow to celebrate being married!

Suitcase Saturday Score - Portobello Market, London

On our last two days in England (back in 2006) we returned to London from the Cotswolds and spent the weekend in Notting Hill so we could attend the world famous Portobello Flea Market.  It was everything we had heard and more. So many vendors, so many shops, so many wonderful pieces of ephemera, and, so many old books.

One of my suitcases was devoted almost entirely to books. Old books, vintage books; books from the 1700's printed on letter press,

books from the late 1800's with gilt pages ends
and hand tooled leather covers.

Vintage stamps and coins were everywhere,

I stocked up on farthings and shillings and big Victorian coppers.

This lovely, lush cashmere scarf was the only thing I purchased at the market that wasn't vintage or antique.

And after a long morning of trolling the booths and shops, a pint and some fish and chips at The Sun in Splendor pub went down a treat!
