Wonder Web Wednesday

Melissa Zink was a remarkable artist.  Her body of work, which continued to evolve over her nearly 40 year career, is ever fresh, innovative and intriguing.

She was a sculptor in clay and created small vignettes of moments in time.  She also made life sized forms that stood tall and proud.

She loved the book, its form, its contents, what it represented and the unique meaning it had for each individual. Her personal library filled shelf after shelf throughout her home. Her typedrawer pieces were hinged to represent the book form.

"Many artists fall short because they lack either the technical skill or the intellect or the heart to create the art that they envision,” Hollis Walker wrote following Zink's passing in 2009.

“Melissa Zink had all three in great measure, and that’s what made her work so powerful.  I always felt great anticipation before she unveiled a new series; I couldn’t wait to see where she would next turn."

Zink's website shows a year by year retrospective of her work. For more on her work and life check out the wonderful book by Hollis Walker -  Zink: The Language of Enchantment.

Wonder Web Wednesday

This is not an art website, not a decorating website or even a rusty website - but for all of us who love to read.  Art has been my passion for the last nine years, but reading has been with me since I started grade school. I've never been without a book since.

And what I like to read most is fiction.  And the fiction I like to read most are series.  That's where this wonderful web  comes in.  Look up an author - there are all the series written by that author in order! - I know!  Look up a book and it will give you a link to the author and the list of series.  Some people can read series out of order - but that's not me (and I know it's not you either) so this website is a god-send.  It's all there, at your fingertips whenever you need to know. In order, with a short synopsis and picture of the cover.  There are also links to different sites in the UK and USA where one can purchase said books.  If you love to read, this is definitely a web to "bookmark!"

Wonder Web Wednesday - The Society Inc.

Here's a fascinating website - The Society Inc. the brain child of Sibella Court.
If you follow my blog you've read my reviews of several of her books.
She's the queen of lost and found decorating, of collection couture, and travel acquisitions.

This is the brick and mortar shop in Australia, that houses all that amazing "stuff".  It changes seasonally with a different color palette several times a year.

The site has bios, portfolios, event and workshop listings, books, an online shop, wholesale info, a newsletter sign-up and as they say "so much more."

It's one of those you'll get lost in and
wonder later where the time went.

So much yummy vintage-y goodness.
Take a virtual trip to The Society Inc.

Wonder Web Wednesday

There are so many truly lovely websites out there, I thought on Wednesdays we visit a different one that I've found and enjoyed. Let's start off with Rieke Studios, home to Gail and her husband Zachariah.

. Located in Santa Fe, New Mexico, their studios wander throughout their living space and utilize several rooms. Collage, assemblage, journals and photographs are all part of their portfolio.

Extensive collections of ephemera and natural items fill dozens and dozens of flat files, suitcases and boxes - art pieces themselves.

The site features many different works of art, along with shots of the studios, biographies, and a workshop schedule.  Come and visit and lose yourself for a happy hour surrounded by the beautiful creations of Rieke Studios.
