Portland Score!!
As we all know part of the fun of traveling is the shopping! We found several delightful places in Portland, some small holes-in-the-wall and one, Powell's, three stories high and a city block long!
Here are a few of my favourites and what I scored:
Oblation (Pearl District) - paper and letterpress extraordinaire. Lovely notebooks, delectable ribbons, vintage-y metal letters, dyed tags...
French Quarter (Pearl District) - French linens and accessories. At $79.00 a towel, we didn't even look at the sheet prices! Clever and colourful displays. We each picked out a bar of divine smelling French milled soap.
Collage (Alberta District) - a mixed media and scrapbook heaven. Any of you who have been to Art 'n' Soul in Portland know about this place. How Marie manages to get so much stash in a relatively small space is all part of the fun. It was great to see lots of items in person, that I'd only come across on-line or in a magazine. This store got the biggest chunk of my spending $$.
Six Days Art Co-op (Alberta District) - Funky, quirky, friendly! And some great art at great prices. Suitcase room being a consideration, I opted for these cards.
Ampersand - (Alberta District) - whole lot of ephemera going on! I could have spent hours here. If you can think of a type of ephemera Ampersand has it. Very tidily arranged and carefully preserved - no swap meet prices here, but good quality. I had a delightful conversation with the propriator about his new map file. Huge, full of flat drawers that opend from either side - had to be at least 8-10 feet long and 6 feet wide - a beautiful piece of furniture and so fun to hear and see how excited he was at having scored it!
Random Order - (Alberta District) - last but not least. It's a coffee shop, it's a pie shop, it's a cafe, it's a bar, it's all so random! Prize winning apple/caramel pie (OMG! yum!), and, get this - a bar serving a variety of alcoholic coffee and tea drinks. Coffee Nudge -brandy, Crème de Cacao, Kahlua & French press w/ whipped cream & cocoa. Cozy London Fog - Earl Grey with brandy, steamed milk and whipped cream and many many more. Plus these fascinating paper chandeliers. Their motto - If you’re not having sex, you should be eating pie.

Can you hear the squealing from there? What treasures...elementary school class pictures, could they be more wonderful...the card with the cricket attire/equipment...everything and yes to pie, possibly nature's most perfect food, though cake is not chopped liver. Great teasing photos...the Chamber of Commerce should hire you.
ReplyDeletewow. I had to comment here. That street sign just puts me in the dirt! I love portland but I've only been once. I love those metal letter tags and the soap and the whole mess of stuff you got at Collage. What a fun trip!
