Cemetery Saturday

Our last visit to Pere Lachaise - two phenomenal singers and one brilliant writer. Maria Callas - her ashes were stolen, then recovered and eventually scattered in the Aegean Sea in her native Greece.

Edith Piaf's grave - no regrets, at peace at last.

Oscar Wilde's final resting place - a monument as flamboyant and over the top as Mr. Wilde himself. Signed by many admirers. The epitaph reads:

And alien tears will fill for him
Pity's long-broken urn,
For his mourners will be outcast men,
And outcasts always mourn.

  1. People kissed the tomb???? Weird! I would have a tough time kissing a grave site, let alone where a billion other people already had! But it makes for an excellent photo.

  2. Destiny - Actually tomb kissing has a long history. But most of us would rather just leave flowers!
