Erin, I am happy to share the celebration of the Day of the Dead with you. Your display is colorful and brings joy to mind. (I really like that painted skull). ♥ audrey
Erin - I love the concept of being scoured clean in order to be able to be receptive to the expression of creativity. I think your painted chair is stunning - it tells me to shine forth on the world each day. I think it's wonderful to surround images of your loved ones with such glorious colour and joy. Thank you for allowing me into your home to share this day with you. Warm wishes from England! x
Erin, I adore your altar built on this beautiful colorFULL chair. I can imagine, because I know that I do, you get such a warm feeling when placing each item and photograph and remember time spent together.
thank you for being part of dia de bloglandia x..x
The exuberance that shines through each object in your shrine speaks of life celebrated. Your chair - the sun, a favorite image - casts benevolent eyes over all. I am reminded that so much of what I do treasure in myself I owe to those no longer among us. Viva Dia de Los Muertos. xo
Morro Bay, a special place indeed. The first year of my marriage many long years ago was in San Luis Obispo. My husband was a senior at Cal Poly and I worked there. I love your colorful ofrenda and wish I could see even more of the quilt that some things are placed upon. The sun is magnificent. I always loved Mission San Luis Obispo when we lived there. Do you have a studio in Morro Bay? Have you ever tripped across a writer friend Anthony Toscano?
It just occurs to me that they haven't left, really, but have rather moved a little bit to the side where they are somewhat harder to see than they once were...
Roz - The chair is very special to me. It was purchased at a time when I was scrimping and saving just to get along. But when I saw the chair I knew I had to have it. The shop owner was a darling man who allowed me an extremely long lay-away plan. It was one of the first pieces I ever bought for myself and has always been an inspiration. Erin
Stephanie - It is so great that you (and now Rebecca) do this and create a community to share in the joys and wonder of this special time. Thank you so much, Erin
Marylinn - I do believe this sun looks very much like one you sent me once on a piece of mail art! It is so true that much of who we are and who we become is a gift from those who have passed on. Erin
Adriana - The chair does make the perfect altar, I feel like the beautiful blue arms are wrapping around my grandparents, parents and brother and holding them close and safe. Erin
Fran - Morro Bay is a special place indeed. My second story studio looks out on the ocean, a sea breeze wafts through the windows and gulls wheel and cry overhead. It's the dream of lifetime to be here. Years ago, I was a soloist with the Mission Choir and also often rang the Mission bells in San Luis Obsipo. Erin
What a beautiful display with the sunny chair. It is always interesting to look at these photos used within and see who these people who have passed on. Jacque
We are all artists--so when creativity calls, be sure to answer!
Growing up in Azusa, California, my kindergarten teacher gave me an "unsatisfactory" in
Cut&Paste, and I believed her for 50 years. Now I am a mixed media artist and work in a library.

The Veil Is Thin
Audrey - Thank you, the skull was fun to make and I always use it for my Day of the Dead altar.

Dawn - I found this fabric in a wonderful shop in Santa Cruz a couple of years ago - it's so bright and colourful and perfect for today.

MMT - It is true that while wandering cemeteries it does seem that the veil is quite thin.
