From the Bookshelf

This is an intriguing compilation of interviews with a variety of New York artists; women and men, and of all age groups. Joe Fig visited the artists in their studios and asked the same group of questions. The answers are as different and unique as each artist and their work is. Wonderful shots of studios - a good mix of pictures of the whole studio set-up and intimate vignettes of small corners and shelves.
But the fascinating angle is this. Joe Fig's art form is miniatures. And he has created one for every studio in the book. A two page spread of the studio miniature is followed by the interview.
Within the interview pages there is a picture of a part of the studio that Fig based his miniature on. They are perfect, down to the last detail; a paint encrusted brush, a banker's box full of rags - everything perfectly captured.
It's always fun to get a peek into another artist's studio and the interview questions are quite interesting - these alone would be enough reason to get the book. But with the addition of Fig's amazing miniature re-creations, this book becomes a must-have volume.

  1. If you would like to show us any of the pages with the miniatures...I would love to see them. What a project. Don't you simply delight in a mind which would come up with such a thing?
